Near record ridership reached on 1st day of free fare week

VACAVILLE - Ridership on City Coach reached near-record levels on Monday, the first day of Free Fare Week.

A total of 1,749 passengers rode City Coach on Monday, the second highest ridership day in the system’s history, a press release announced. City Coach’s highest single ridership day was 1,773, achieved while school was in session during the system’s last Free-Fare Day in August 2010. Free-Fare Week kicks off a variety of improvements to City Coach, including new routes and extended hours.

"We’re very pleased with the ridership totals," said Transit and Fleet Manager Brian McLean. "For a typically slow summer day, and with school not in session, yesterday’s ridership total is certainly a good start to Free-Fare Week."

Approximately 100 passengers were transported on the new Browns Valley route, exceeding expectations.

Coming Soon – New Routes and Longer Operating Times
To celebrate this ridership milestone, on August 1, 2011 City Coach will be rolling out new routes to areas of Vacaville not currently served as well as operating both earlier and later Monday through Saturday.  Bus route improvements include regular 30-minute service to the Solano College Vacaville Campus, Bro
