LIVESTRONG bike challenge rides into Davis this weekend

DAVIS - Lance Armstrong's LIVESTRONG community will ride through Davis this Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10. The 2-day event kicks off Saturday with an exhibitor "Challenge Village" from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. in downtown Central Park on 4th Street. A fundraising appreciation dinner will be held that night from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. at The Good Life Garden on UC Davis' campus, One Shields Avenue.

On Sunday the main event, the LIVESTRONG Challenge Rides, begins at 7:30 a.m. at Central Park. Riders can pick up their bibs and packets beginning at 6:30 a.m.

Woodland to host Senior Softball Western National Championships

WOODLAND - The City of Woodland and partner cities will host Senior Softball USA Western National Championship the week of July 12-17 at the Woodland Community Center located at 2001 East Street, in addition to playing at Davis Playfields and Vacaville Al Patch and Nelson fields (July 15-17).

A press release Tuesday announced the City of Woodland is excited to host an SSUSA event for the third time. It is a tremendous economic benefit to the community not to mention it is great fun for all that are involved. This year’s tournament will host 90 teams of players: ages beginning at 40+ through 85. These players are serious softball players and we can all learn pointers from them. The senior Senior players(65-85) will play Tuesday-Thursday (July 12, 13, and 14) and the junior Senior players (45-60) and Masters (40+) will play Friday-Sunday (July 15, 16 and 17).

The tournament is hosting teams from areas as far as west of the Mississippi River.
