UC Davis alumni events planned for Picnic Day April 16

DAVIS - The Cal Aggie Alumni Association (CAAA) will host a number of events on Picnic Day, Saturday, April 16, including a cooking demonstration by UC Davis alumnus and celebrity Chef Martin Yan.

Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center
Alumni, parents and the entire Aggie community can kick off the Picnic Day weekend by sampling delicious wines from a number of Aggie winemakers. Featured wineries and breweries at this event include: Georg Rafael Vineyards, Mark Moretti Winery, Mendocino Brewing Company, Rominger West Winery, Spoto Wines and Sudwerk Brewery.
$15 for CAAA and Parent Association Members
$20 for Nonmembers
Adults 21 and over only

Woodland Poly announces Fall athletic program leaders

WOODLAND - Tuesday the Woodland Polytechnic Academy announced the leaders of the school’s Fall athletic programs. The tuition-free independent charter high school will focus on providing students multiple educational pathways including skills needed to move to higher education and the world of work. The school is currently enrolling students and is scheduled to open this Fall.

The school’s Fall athletic programs will be led by:

  • Athletic Director, Tim Noha
  • Head Volleyball Coach, Sara Garcia-Marks
  • Head Soccer Coach, Augustin Rodriguez
  • Head Football Coach, Steve Marks, Jr.
  • Head Cheer Coach, Kari Powell

“Healthy minds and bodies are an integral part of a student’s learning experience. Woodland Poly will offer a premier athletic program with coaches who have excelled at collegiate and professional sport levels.

'Keep Hope Alive Concert' at UC Davis set for April 10

DAVIS - On Sunday, April 10, The Sheila Kar Health Foundation will team up with The Davis H.O.P.E Program and UC Davis’ Professor Charles Bamforth, PhD, to present "Keep Hope Alive Concert." The concert will take place from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. at Freeborn Hall on UC Davis's campus, 1 Shields Avenue. Doors open at 1:45 p.m.

The goal is to provide a fun and accessible forum and event to raise awareness amongst students and the community in Davis and Sacramento ensuring that the homeless, and others in need, have access to education, healthcare, and tools to improve their lives.

Throughout the day, guests will enjoy live performances by funk band Seamoose, rap duo Zion 1, and Reggae Legends S.O.J.A. Donations are welcome and donors will receive complimentary VIP tickets. Tickets are $19 for Students, $24 for General Admission and $70 VIP Tickets.

Sac City College World Music Ensemble to perform at UC Davis

DAVIS - The Sacramento City College World Music Ensemble, directed by Bob Wren, will present a series of three concerts celebrating the UC Davis Shield's Oak Tree Grove on the following dates:

· Sunday, April 17, at 4:00 pm
· Sunday, May 15, at 5:00 pm
· Sunday, June 12, at 5:30 pm

Admission for all three concerts is free. The April and May concerts will be located at the Gazebo in the Shields Grove at the UC Davis Arboretum, and the public is invited to play along with the World Music Ensemble.

The June concert will begin at the Gazebo, and will feature a strolling concert through the grove, with music from some of the countries represented by the 80 varieties of oak trees in the grove, poetry read by the City of Davis Poet Laureate, Allegra Silberstein and commentary presented by docents relating to the oak trees.

 

The Gazebo is located on Garrod Drive near the Veterinarian Medical Building on the UC Davis campus.
