UC Davis to shut down Whole Earth Festival dance venue

DAVIS - UC Davis officials announced Thursday they will shut down the Whole Earth Festival's DJ Stage beginning next year, in the wake of the campus police department's investigations of three violent crimes, including the reported rape of a 16-year-old girl, in and around the music venue last weekend.

"We are sending a message that people cannot come to our campus and behave this way," said Fred Wood, vice chancellor for Student Affairs. "It can't continue and it won't be tolerated. We need to create a safe environment for everyone at this university."

Whole Earth Festival is a student-run program that is held during Mother's Day weekend every year.
