Yolo County and Woodland public libraries debut new book bikes

(Woodland, CA) – The Yolo County Library and the Woodland Public Library unveiled their new bicycle-powered mobile libraries which will deliver library services throughout the community to schools, parks and local events.

The bikes are funded through a California State Library grant, supported by the U.S. Institute of Museum & Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services & Technology Act. The two library systems collaborated on a joint application and were awarded funding in late 2015.

(Woodland, CA) – Join the Yolo County Library and the Friends of the Yolo Branch Library at the “Cruisin’ into the Next Chapter” Classic Car and Truck Show on August 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. outside the Yolo Branch Library, located at 37750 Sacramento Street in Yolo.

All are welcome to attend this free family-friendly event which will feature a display of classic cars and trucks around the library. In addition to the car show, visit the nearly 100-year-old Carnegie library and check out books, watch a “Cars” movie marathon, enjoy arts and crafts for all ages and take part in family activities while listening to live music. Participants will also be able to enter to win raffle prizes and support the Friends of the Yolo Branch Library with purchases of food, plants and t-shirts.

SUCCESS youth program expands at the Winters Community Library

(Woodland, CA) – The SUCCESS: Afternoon Youth Enrichment program at the Winters Community Library, located at 708 Railroad Avenue in Winters, has expanded to three days of service; Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The SUCCESS program is an afterschool homework assistance, positive social interaction and mentorship program where elementary school students receive assistance with homework and reading from high school mentors. Students also have the opportunity to participate in various community service projects, teambuilding games and enrichment activities.

Programs at the West Sacramento library in September

(Woodland, CA) – All are welcome to participate in the following special programs held during the month of September at Yolo County’s Arthur F. Turner Community Library, located at 1212 Merkley Avenue in West Sacramento:

• September 3: Special Tot Play Time: Little Einstein, 1:00 p.m. This monthly play time is designed for toddlers to expand their imagination through science exploration.

• September 6: Monthly Computer Class: eBay, 9:00 a.m. Participants will learn the basics of setting up an account on eBay, an online auction site where millions of people sell, buy and bid on new, used or antique items from around the world. A library card and PIN are required. Register in person at the information desk or by phone at: (916) 375-6465. Space is limited.

• September 8 and 22: All Things String, 6:00 p.m. This crafting circle is for anyone who knits, crochets, embroiders or enjoys fiber art. Bring a project or start something new.

September programs at the Esparto regional library

(Woodland, CA) – All are welcome to participate in the following special programs held during the month of September at Yolo County’s Esparto Regional Library, located at 17065 Yolo Avenue in Esparto:

• All September: Visit your local branch to get your free Yolo County library card during Library Card Sign-Up Month.

• September 8: Master Garden Program, 6:30 p.m. This garden information program is presented by the University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners of Yolo County and sponsored by the Friends of the Esparto Regional Library.

• September 13: Mad Science of Sacramento Valley, 3:15 p.m. The whole family is welcome to experience science fun in the Spin, Pop, Boom Show.

• September 15: Afternoon Movie, 3:00 p.m. Children and families are invited to view a family friendly (rated G or PG) movie. For movie title call: (530) 787-3426.

(Woodland, CA) – Do you play Pokémon Go? Are you looking for PokéGyms, PokéStops or Pokémon to catch? Players of all ages are welcome to visit any of the Yolo County Library’s eight branches to find a variety of Pokémon.

Explore Yolo County’s towns and cities in which Yolo County Library branches reside while capturing Pokémon of all shapes and sizes and filling up the Pokédex. Load up on supplies by visiting the various PokéStops at the branches to collect more Poké Balls, razz berries, potions or eggs. Set a lure, seize the PokéGym or check out the library’s collection of Pokémon materials. All Yolo County Library branches are air-conditioned and have staff ready to share in the excitement and fun.
