CHP: 2 killed in DUI crash on Highway 16 in Yolo Co.

YOLO COUNTY, CA - The California Highway Patrol is looking for witnesses to a solo-vehicle crash on Highway 16 late Monday afternoon in which two people were killed.

According to the preliminary investigation, at approximately 4:45 p.m., a 2001 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck being driven on westbound 16 just east of County Road 40 left the roadway, rolled approximately 75 feet down an embankment and smacked into a tree, said Officer Brian Konvalin.

The impact killed two passengers, a 39-year-old woman and a boy approximately 14 years, both from Redwood City. Their names have not been released.

Konalin said behind the wheel was Reyes Barajas, 46, also from Redwood City. He was extricated from the pick-up and flown by air ambulance to a Santa Rosa hospital.

Responding officers noted Barajas appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence (two counts) causing injury or death. He may also face grows felony manslaughter charges when he is well enough to go to jail after medical care, Konvalin said.

Due to the remote location and time of the traffic collision, the Woodland CHP Area office asked anyone with information about the collision to call its office at (530) 662-4685.
