Pink Heals Tour - May 27-28

The Pink Heals Tour will stop in Solano County May 27-28 as it makes its first ever visit to California. The famous pink fire trucks will be on public display outside NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield on Friday, May 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to stop by to visit the firemen and learn more about the tour's mission of raising money to fight breast cancer. Three fire trucks will be on display in Vacaville on Saturday, May 28. One of the pink fire trucks is joining the NorthBay Healthcare Fiesta Days parade entry. Following the parade it will park at Nut Tree Plaza in front of Fenton's Creamery from approximately 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Another pink fire truck will be located in the parking lot of the NorthBay Guild Thrift Shop at 409 Main Street in Vacaville during Saturday's Fiesta Days activities. A third pink fire truck will be located at Andrews Park beginning at 8 a.m.

DAVIS - The Hallmark Inn, Davis continues to ramp up its Internet presence with the launch of a new mobile phone site and application, available for free downloading through iTunes. With the app, users can view specials, make reservations, get directions, or contact the hotel directly.  The new app complements Hallmark Inn’s existing website as well as its presence on Facebook. The mobile application and fan page are the avenues in which loyal guests/fans will receive exclusive promotions and rates from the hotel.

Development is nearing completion to accommodate Android mobile operating systems with ease of booking options.

An official “Worldhotels Partner” the Hallmark Inn enjoys domestic/international internet traffic and is seeing an enthusiastic response to their efforts.

Electric cars put brakes on gas pains

VACAVILLE, CA - A new generation of electric cars is rolling off the assembly line, and it appears they are here to stay. They are pricey, but federal tax credit helps to make them more affordable for the average consumer. With the tax credit, you can drive off in a Chevy Volt for around $33,500 and a Nissan Leaf for $25,280. Ford, Honda, Mitsubishi, and Toyota all plan to have electric vehicles in showrooms by the end of this year or next.

"Later on this year, and in 2012, you're going to see a lot of product out there to choose from," said Ed Huestis, an Alternative Fuel Vehicle consultant; "It's going to be pretty exciting."This is the first time since 2003 that major automakers have made electric vehicles available to the general public.

Renaissance literature scholar wins top honor

DAVIS, CA - Margaret Ferguson, professor of  English at the University of California Davis received the 2011 Faculty Research Lecture Award.

The award was given to her by her colleagues in the Davis Division of the Academic Senate. The 69-year-old award, recognizing outstanding scholarly research, is the senate's highest accolade. It comes with a $1,000 cash prize.

Ferguson established herself as a significant critic of Renaissance literature with her first book, "Trials of Desire: Renaissance Defenses of Poetry". It also helped her earn tenure at Yale University.

Ferguson has authored 2 books and more than 35 articles and book chapters, and 15 reviews and other publications. She has also edited or co-edited 11 books.

Ferguson has taught at Yale, Columbia, and the University of Colorado Boulder.
