The Yolo County Board of Supervisors is pleased to announce the appointment of Ronald W. Chapman, MD, MPH as Yolo County’s health officer.  This appointment is being made following the retirement of Yolo County Health Officer Constance Caldwell, MD.

In the public sector, Dr. Chapman was appointed as director & state health officer of the California Department of Public Health and has served as chief medical officer for Partnership HealthPlan, deputy director/county health officer for the Solano County Department of Health & Social Services, chief of Medicine & Public Health Section for the California Department of Health Services and chief, Integrating Medicine & Public Health Program for the California Department of Health Services and Institute for Health & Aging at the University of California, San Francisco.  Dr. Chapman has also served on the faculty of the UC Davis Department of Family and Community Medicine.

Dr. Chapman received his doctor of medicine from the University of Southern California and his master of public health from the University of Michigan School of Public Health.

Dr. Chapman serves on the Board of Directors for the Public Health Accreditation Board and has held leadership positions with the County Health Executives Association of California and California Conference of Local Health Officers.  In 2008, he was the recipient of the American Medical Association’s “Dr. Nathan Davis Award for Outstanding Government Service.”

“Dr. Chapman has dedicated his career to improving access to quality health care and eliminating health disparities on behalf of the residents of California,” said Yolo County Board of Supervisors Chair Matt Rexroad.  “We are fortunate to now have him serve on behalf of the residents of Yolo County.”

“I am honored to have been chosen to serve as the Yolo County health officer,” said Ronald W. Chapman, MD, MPH.  “I look forward to working with the outstanding Yolo team to improve the health of communities throughout the county.”

The health officer position is a 0.5 full time equivalent position with an annual salary range of $171,122-208,000.  Dr. Chapman will assume the position of Yolo County Health Officer on September 21.
