De Vere’s expanding to Davis

De Vere’s Irish Pub, a locally owned downtown business founded in the midst of the recession, will open its second location at the end of the summer in the space that was formerly the home of Soga’s in Davis.

“We’re excited,” said co-owner Simon de Vere White. “We’ve been eying Davis for a long time.”

The new space, at 217 E St. in downtown Davis, is 4,800 square feet, about 1,000 square feet bigger than the Sacramento pub.

Contributor of the Month: Blogger Catherine Enfield

The contributor of the month piece will highlight a My Neighborhood blogger who has posted multiple pieces during the month and is doing something exciting. The contributor of the month is picked by News10 My Neighborhood staff.

I met up with Catherine Enfield at the Sugar and Spice Bakery at 12th and F. Bakery Owner Carissa went about her afternoon as she baked more treats and helped patrons pick out their perfect dessert.

Catherin and I stood in the corner and chatted about her blog Munchie Musings.

“The Munchie Musings is actually an appropriate title because if I had to think of a mission statement it would be thoughts, musings, about food and life,” Catherine explained.

A taste of Davis 2011

A taste of Davis 2011

When people ask me where I grew up, I usually respond by saying “Davis, California” followed at lightning-speed by a supporting qualifier: “It’s just outside of Sacramento.” But more and more, I’m noticing there’s no need to put my hometown on the map in such a way. Lately, my response has been met with comments such as “Oh, I have a friend that went to UC Davis” or “Yes, I’ve heard of the great Farmers Market they have there.”
