St. Patrick's Day Poker Pub Crawl in Woodland March 17

WOODLAND - St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner and why not plan to celebrate by joining a local Poker Pub Crawl on March 17. Five bars, one epic day!

The participating venues are:

Brown’s Corner - 392 West Main Street, Woodland
Kenny’s Bar - 721 East Street, Woodland
Capital Saloon and Grill - 601 Main Street, Woodland
Tazzina Bistro - 614 Main Street, Woodland
The Stag - 506 Main Street, Woodland

The party starts when the first bar opens at about 6 a.m. and continues until The Stag closes at around 2 a.m. on Thursday, March 18. There is no pre-determined order to visit each venue, just be sure to hit them all! Every one of the venues will have great prices on various food and/or drink items in honor of St. Patricks Day, and everyone who attends can enter for a chance to win a $100 Best Buy Gift Card!

Each of the above participating businesses will have specially marked playing cards on hand during their business hours.

Davis Farmer's Market celebrates Pig Day March 5

DAVIS - The Davis Farmers Market's 20th annual Pig Day, will be held on Saturday, March 5, celebrating pigs, food and local agriculture. You'll find baby pigs, people in pig costumes, pig crafts for kids, and pig-out eats at the Davis Farmers Market from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm in Central Park at 4th and C Streets in Davis.

Market manager, Randii MacNear, calls Pig Day the shining star of the market's events. "There is no other event like Pig Day in all of California. Our big pig gig celebrates the pigs rightful place as one of man’s most intelligent and useful domesticated animals, and it's great fun for the whole family."

Check out the petting zoo of piglets and craft booths where children can make pig tails, pig noses as well as piggie faces. Booths are sponsored by the Davis Parent Nursery School and the Davis Community Church Nursery School.Pony Ranch Parties will provide the pony rides.

Sugar, health symposium coming up at UC Davis March 17

DAVIS - More than 100 researchers, health professionals, students, policymakers and community members interested in reducing and preventing obesity and related diseases will gather Thursday, March 17, at the University of California, Davis, for a one-day symposium focused on sugar consumption and its impact on human health.

New and unpublished data, all pointing to converging evidence that sugar is at the root of many modern disease epidemics, will be presented and discussed, according to conference coordinators.

The one-day conference is part of a University of California Office of the President collaboration between UC Davis, UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco to promote cutting-edge research on obesity. It is funded by the University of California.

This year's symposium, titled "Sugar Highs and Lows: Dietary Sugars, the Brain, and Metabolic Outcomes" will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in UC Davis' Walter A. Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center.
