I scoured the farmer’s market for the best looking fruit and happened upon some freshly picked organic strawberries for a good price. These sweet little red berries compliment the mint and lime flavors and add some natural sweetness (depending on your berries, you can use add less sugar to the drink)...

Earthquake Street Festival takes over downtown Main Street on Friday, Aug. 26, 5-11 p.m.

WINTERS, CA - Summer is just about over when downtown Main Street fills up at the end of August, and the community gathers to enjoy plenty of food, friends and free entertainment. It’s the Earthquake Street Festival, one of the biggest events of the year in Winters, and this year’s street party starts shaking it up at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26.

Kicking off this year’s festival once again is the City of Winters After School program at 5 p.m. with free children’s activities such as hula hoop and limbo competitions, and with prizes for the winners.

The Kalpulli Xihuacoatl Aztec dancers take center stage at 5:30 p.m., and at 6 p.m., local musicians Joey Sanders, Nick Hawley and Carlos Figueroa, known collectively as the band “Egg,” will play classic and progressive rock and blues, followed by Los Charros Los Caporales at 6:30 p.m.

Los Charros Los Caporales will bring authentic ballet folklorico and lariat performances, as well as live mariachi music.
