Mondavi Center announces SummerMusic series

DAVIS - The Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, UC Davis announced in a press release, the return of the popular SummerMusic series on the UC Davis Quad. This year’s lineup includes the Cajun sounds of Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys on July 16, and the Indian rhythms of Non Stop Bhangra on August 13. Both events begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free and open to all ages. The UC Davis Quad will open at 6:00 p.m. for picnicking prior to both events. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the UC Davis Campus.

“With these two exciting SummerMusic concerts Mondavi Center fans can get a preview of two special themes in the 2011-12 season,” said Don Roth, Mondavi Center executive director.

Woodland police to participate in Special Olympics torch run

WOODLAND - The Woodland Police Department announced in a press release that on June 24, law enforcement officers will participte in a run geared toward raising money and public awareness about the Special Olympics.

The Northern California Law Enforcement Torch Run will come through Woodland on June 24. The California Highway Patrol will hand the torch off to the Woodland Police Department at about 12:20 p.m. on East Main Street at CR 102. Many officers from the Woodland Police Department, including members of command staff, the SWAT Team, Patrol and Records, will wind their way to the Woodland Police Department, where a brief press conference will be held in front of the department at approximately 12:40 p.m. Afterwards, the runners will escort the torch down Main Street, south on Cottonwood and then east on Gibson Road.

Summer events continue at Yolo County Library

DAVIS - Special summer reading events in both Yolo County libraries in Davis continue the week of June 19. All events are free of charge and family friendly.

On Saturday, June 25 at 11:00 a.m., the Marguerite Montgomery Elementary School satellite library, located at 1441 Danbury Street in Davis, will offer an Alaskan Adventure program for families.

On Wednesday, June 22 at 7:00 p.m., the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library, located at 315 E. 14th Street in Davis, will host Davis Cultural C.O.O.P. director and local children’s author/illustrator, Sandy Holman. During this program, entitled "We All Have a Heritage: Many Cultures, One World," participants will be invited to celebrate diversity, the love of reading and gifts we all share with the world.
