May Programs at the Esparto Regional Library

(Woodland, CA) – The following special programs will be held during the month of May at Yolo County’s Esparto Regional Library, located at 17065 Yolo Avenue in Esparto:

• May 10: Integrated Pest Management, 6:30 p.m. This garden program is presented by the UCCE Master Gardeners and is sponsored by the Friends of the Esparto Regional Library.

• May 11: The Bubble Lady, 3:15 p.m. Enjoy spectacular bubble artistry mixed with comedy in this interactive program for the whole family.

• May 17: Afternoon Movie, 3:00 p.m. Children and families are invited to view a family friendly (rated G or PG) movie. For movie title call: (530) 787-3426.

• May 26: Children’s Art Class with Julie, 3:30 p.m. Learn about paper curling collages in this hands-on class for children.

(Woodland, CA) – Buzzz!  Are you interested in bees?  Come celebrate Native Bee Day on April 23 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library, located at 315 E. 14th Street in Davis, and learn all about native bees with the Davis Science Collective.

Families and children of all ages will learn about native stingless bees through pollination activities, honey tasting, flower dissections and more.  This free program will have a variety of fun and family-friendly activities and live demonstrations.  The Davis Science Collective, a group of UC Davis graduate students, promotes science and facilitates communication and interaction with the community.

Yolo County Library Celebrates Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros

(Woodland, CA) – Children and their families are invited to join the Yolo County Library and celebrate Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros in April.

Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros is a nationally recognized initiative which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.  The event emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children from all backgrounds and encourages libraries and community organizations to connect children and their families to diverse books, languages and cultures. 

Children who attend the following events will receive a free book and can participate in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities, watch a special performance and listen to a story time program.  Additional vendors and organizations will also be present to celebrate with the Yolo County Library.

All are welcome to participate in this fun and educational celebration on the following days:

Active Older Adults Invited to Join Wisdom Circle at the Davis Library

(Woodland, CA) – The Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library, located at 315 E. 14th Street in Davis, welcomes elders to join the ongoing group Active Older Adult Wisdom Circle on Thursday, April 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Blanchard Room.

This free discussion group meets regularly on the second Thursday of each month to explore aspects of the conscious aging movement, share the accumulated wisdom of long lives and find effective ways to share and pass on legacies.  Rabbi Zalman Schacter-Shalomi and Ronald Miller’s book, From Age-ing to Sage-ing serves as a guide for discussion and activities.

No reservations are required, all programs are free to attend and new members are welcome to join.  The Blanchard Room of the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library is accessible for persons with disabilities.

(Woodland, CA) – The Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library, located at 315 E. 14th Street in Davis, welcomes the community on Wednesday, April 13 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to a “Building Strong Relationships Through Conflict” program presented by the Yolo Conflict Resolution Center.

The Yolo Conflict Resolution Center is an affordable community-based organization that helps people resolve conflicts by delivering mediation, facilitation, education and restorative practices. This free workshop will discuss the nature of conflict, how it impacts our lives and communities, and how we can turn conflicts into opportunities.

Cache Creek Area Plan Update Kick-Off April 11

(Woodland, CA) – To increase public awareness about the update of Yolo County’s Cache Creek Area Plan, an informational kick-off event is scheduled for Monday, April 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Cache Creek Nature Preserve, located at 34199 County Road 20 in Woodland.  Participants will have an opportunity to hear about and discuss the update of this plan which helps to set policy for and balance interests in a 14.5-mile stretch of Cache Creek.
