Teen with knife arrested at Woodland high school

WOODLAND, CA - A 17-year-old boy with a knife was detained on the campus of Pioneer High School in Woodland Thursday morning.

Woodland police officers were first dispatched to the campus at 1400 Pioneer Avenue at 8:07 a.m. for a report of a teen on campus with a gun, said police Lt. Anthony Cucchi.

The school was placed on lockdown.

While officers were on their way to the school, school administrators stopped the teen, who was not a student, and said he was cooperating, Cucchi said.

Police officers found the teen had a butterfly knife, not a gun, in his possession, Cucchi said. A butterfly knife is a folding, two-handled knife.

There were no attempts on the 17 year old's part to harm anyone, according to police.

Still, the teen was arrested and taken to Yolo County Juvenile Detention Center on a booking charge of possession of a weapon on school grounds.

The lockdown was lifted after seven minutes, Cucchi said.
