Davis Music Festival kicks off June 25

DAVIS - The Davis Music Festival is a SXSW-style event that will take place on June 25 in Davis. Showcasing bands from all over California (and one from Seattle), 20 artists will be spread out over the course of the day in five different downtown Davis venues: E Street Plaza, Odd Fellows Hall, Sophia's Thai Kitchen, Delta of Venus and Little Prague.

Festival-goers will have the opportunity to choose between dancing, swaying, line-dancing or even head banging from one hour to the next. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Davis Schools Arts Foundation to help benefit music, art and performing arts programs.

Pink Martini to feature Storm Large at Mondavi Center July 5

DAVIS - Pink Martini’s debut performance at the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, UC Davis on Tuesday, July 5  at 8 p.m. will feature a guest vocalist. Storm Large, who made her debut with Pink Martini in February of 2011, will replace China Forbes for the scheduled performance.

A performer of extraordinary gifts, Storm Large has been singing around the globe for more than 15 years. She shot to national prominence in 2006 as a finalist on the CBS show Rock Star: Supernova. Her February debut with Pink Martini was a smashing success, as she sang four sold-out concerts with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.

Mondavi Center announces SummerMusic series

DAVIS - The Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, UC Davis announced in a press release, the return of the popular SummerMusic series on the UC Davis Quad. This year’s lineup includes the Cajun sounds of Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys on July 16, and the Indian rhythms of Non Stop Bhangra on August 13. Both events begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free and open to all ages. The UC Davis Quad will open at 6:00 p.m. for picnicking prior to both events. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the UC Davis Campus.

“With these two exciting SummerMusic concerts Mondavi Center fans can get a preview of two special themes in the 2011-12 season,” said Don Roth, Mondavi Center executive director.

Summer events continue at Yolo County Library

DAVIS - Special summer reading events in both Yolo County libraries in Davis continue the week of June 19. All events are free of charge and family friendly.

On Saturday, June 25 at 11:00 a.m., the Marguerite Montgomery Elementary School satellite library, located at 1441 Danbury Street in Davis, will offer an Alaskan Adventure program for families.

On Wednesday, June 22 at 7:00 p.m., the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library, located at 315 E. 14th Street in Davis, will host Davis Cultural C.O.O.P. director and local children’s author/illustrator, Sandy Holman. During this program, entitled "We All Have a Heritage: Many Cultures, One World," participants will be invited to celebrate diversity, the love of reading and gifts we all share with the world. Participants will travel through the continents learning about different people, celebrating through music and dance, and honoring the written word while Ms.

WOODLAND - On Tuesday, June 14, the Ag History Center will unveil antique tractors that will become permanent contributions to the antique collection. Enthusiasts from all walks of life are invited to become a member and support a collection that is the hallmark of California culture.

June 14th will be an evening to enjoy light appetizers that feature the center’s new culinary team, and taste the produce of Berryessa Gap Winery, Copper Hill Olive Oil, Lucero Oil, Putah Creek Winery, Rominger West Winery, Route 3 by Yolo Vineyards, Simas Family Vineyard, and Turkovich Family Wines.

Nineteenth-century observers watched in awe as cumbersome steam tractors and giant combines worked their way across vast fields.
